We lit up the BFI’s gala fundraiser
BFI Luminous – BFI
BRIEF
inspire the film lovers of today to support the film makers of tomorrow
The biennial LUMINOUS Gala fundraiser shines a light on new talents in filmmaking and raises money for the BFI’s training and education programmes.
We were asked to design and deliver this experience, creating a musical and visual journey through film and driving fundraising at the same time.
APPROACH
MOVING PICTURES: turning the Roundhouse into a giant zoetrope
Inspired by the historic space and unique drum shape of the Roundhouse, we evoked the history and present of film by using giant screens to turn the space into a zoetrope, one of the earliest forms of motion picture.
Designed to resonate with an audience of filmmakers and film lovers, it expressed the pioneering role of the BFI in nurturing the British film industry.
EXPERIENCE
A Night to Remember
The BFI welcomed 448 VIP guests to the Roundhouse for a red-carpet reception, dinner hosted by Jonathan Ross, and an auction of rare film-related lots, run by Sotheby’s, as well as speeches by Gemma Arterton and Danny Boyle and a performance by Taron Egerton.
Surround sound, dozens of suspended screens arranged in a 360-degree formation, and a full choir immersed guests in an emotive journey through the story of the moving image.
THE IMPACT
With a fundraising target of £400,000 net profit, we helped the BFI to far exceed expectations and set a new record for over £600,000 net profit raised by the LUMINOUS Gala.
